"Minimising muscular activation"
Many of the concepts used by LiftHard comes from Asia and Europe. One concept that I like to believe in, is "Chi". Yes, I'm very much aware that the new-age term for it is kinetic linking but 3000 years ago, I'm not sure if kinetic linking was a word yet.
For the purpose of respect to my mentors, and comprehension, let's call it "Chi". And for application to this example, let's explain "Chi" as transferring maximum power to the barbell.
The more relaxed you are, the less the limbs are holding on to the weight, the more you'll be able to transfer the force generated from the body into the barbell.
Example.
A jujitsu fighter will stay as calm as possible even when exerting tension and wait for the right position, explode and choke the opponent out.
A good boxer is calm, and relaxed, understands technique and gets ready for that killer punch
A free-runner will transfer their force instead of tightening it. To avoid injuries and enjoy their game.
So I believe, this concept can be used for weightlifting as well. It's a term I've coined as "calm strength". Calm strength, is where you use, just the right amount of strength, to hold the positions necessary, to transfer force into the barbell, during the second pull.
That's why I always tell the guys I coach, shut up, don't have to get excited. There's no room for showmanship before eggs have hatched. Always practice humility (but occasionally, go show off). Just don't do a Miley. That's just weird.
